Minischool on the Physics of NUSTAR University of Surrey, June 8th -11th, 2009 _________________________________________________ |
|
Background: In the University of Surrey tradition, the Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Physics at the University of Surrey will be running a Minischool to focus on the underlying physics of the NUSTAR collaboration at the forthcoming FAIR facility. The mainstay of the proposed Minischool will be series of postgraduate lectures on nuclear structure physics given by Professor Richard Casten of Yale University; as part of his forthcoming visit to the UK supported by an STFC Visiting Researcher Grant. These lectures will be supported by additional one-hour specialist lectures on the technical aspects of specific parts of the NUSTAR collaboration (e.g., R3B, DESPEC, HISPEC (plus AGATA), ILIMA and LASPEC) given by leading scientists in these collaborations.
The Minischool will take place from lunchtime on Monday 8th June through lunchtime on Thursday 11th June and will provide an opportunity for UK and European PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to gain insight and experience of the proposed physics of the NUSTAR collaboration through scene-setting nuclear structure physics lectures. Links to the lecture presentation files
are provided via the timetable of lectures below.
TIMETABLE AND LOCATION OF LECTURES The school lectures will take place in room 35AC04 (that is Room 35 on Floor 04 of Building AC). A campus map can be found here which shows the location of the AC building in the central academic buildings area. If you arrive early on the first day, the tea room in the Physics Department is Room 30BB03. If you need other assistance then please call Cristobel in the Physics office on 01483 686800. The schedule of the mini-school is available also as a pdf file here You can also view photographs (1, 2, 3, 4) and a short video.
